Darien Chiropractor Brian Mc Kay reports new study reveals the use of external trigeminal nerve stimulation can be an effective migraine treatment.
As per an article published in Newswire, Denise Chou, MD, Columbia University, New York City, reported from the 18th Congress of the International Headache Society recently held in Vancouver British Columbia that minimally invasive use of external trigeminal nerve stimulation has been shown to be effective in treating acute migraine episodes. According to Dr.Chou, “The results of this multicenter, double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled trial demonstrate that eTNS is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for the acute treatment of a migraine, offering a nonpharmacologic option for patients who may not be able to tolerate abortive medications.”
As per the article, good news is that eTNS (External trigeminal nerve stimulation) has already been approved for the prevention of migraines. There is existing data that supports the safety and efficacy of eTNS for the treatment of acute migraine headaches. This is exciting news for millions of migraine headache sufferers. Now we have to get big pharma to support a nonpharmacological program? More than likely this information will not be met with further, more widespread studies across larger study populations. Herein lies the trouble, why should big pharma pursue this exciting news? You really can’t blame them. Pharmaceutical companies help millions of people stay healthy with medications. There is no argument that medications work. There is a cost of delivering medications that result in the prices consumers pay. Without financial benefit, this eTNS study may never gain the traction it needs to reach the people who would benefit the most.
Cefaly Technology headquartered in Belgium manufactures the eTNS devices that have FDA approval for treating migraine headaches. The good news is that a solution is at hand. Getting your hands on the device will take time as it is not readily available yet. You can find out more by clicking here to reach their website. I hope that you are as excited as I am to learn that migraine sufferers have the potential for relief of their headaches. Hopefully, there will be more good news to follow.
